A Message for Volunteers Who Participated Last Year:

After you sign up to participate again this year, I will go back into my file from last year and confirm your group to revisit the SAME facility you went to last year.

Who will receive the Golden Rose Award?  It could be you next year!  Our organization is in need of a few committed volunteers to help in the yearly administration of the event.

Our gracious rose donors Dave Walker and Karen Lindsey of Avista Technologies also make it possible to give one of our volunteers The Golden Rose Award.  Besides helping on the day of the event, the recipient of this award would likely help with some of the event details.  Besides delivering roses to seniors on the 24th, this year we need the following help:
  • A volunteer to call senior facilities and confirm participation in the event
  • A volunteer with a truck to pick up the roses from the grower within Carlsbad and transport to the Harding Center on the morning of Sun. Dec. 23
  • A few volunteers to obtain pastry donations from local supermarkets or bakeries for the morning of the event.
  • Juice and water donations for the day of the event.

Roses for Our Senior Friends 2019 Event Information
Join our delivery of long-stem roses to residents at various senior care facilities within north county on Christmas Eve morning.  We will meet up as a large group and you will check-in.   At the check-in table, you will be given an address to a pre-assigned location to a senior facility and a bucket full of dethorned roses. PLEASE ARRIVE ON TIME but be aware that you will not leave until all volunteers have been accounted for.  Expect to leave Harding Center by approximately 10:30am.  There will be coffee and morning refreshments available while you wait.  We will then disperse and your group will caravan to your designated facility.

Please note* Children are warmly welcomed and encouraged to come!  Due to the variety of facilities you may happen to be assigned to: assisted living, alzheimer's/dementia care, nursing/rehab centers, etc, parents should talk to kids about dementia and illness.  What may seem like an uncomfortable or unnatural experience in one of the facilities for adults, can be an opportunity for growth and maturity for children.  Your attitude and way of explaining odd behavior to kids will shape how a child reacts and behaves towards our elders.
